3 Metabolism Myths

 

1. Eating 5 small meals helps speed up metabolism.

Truth: Quality of food is important but just as important as the total calories that are consumed via eating and drinking. There is no significant difference between eating 5 meals vs any other meal frequency. Find the pattern that works best for you as it will allow you to stick to a way of eating that suits you.

2. Your metabolism slows down as you get older

Truth: As people get older they generally move less. This means that levels of activity reduces and therefore will need less calories. Also older people will start to lose muscle especially as they past 60 years of age. This is why it’s a good idea to do resistance training as a form of exercise. The more muscle that you have and the more active you are the more calories you will require.

3. HIIT Training increases your metabolism

Truth: HIIT is great for improving your aerobic fitness and it does burn calories, however this alone won’t make you into a ‘metabolic machine’. For most effective results use a combination of both C.V and weight training. This will allow you to build muscle and burn fat with C.V sessions used as a supplement to burn extra calories and to also improve aerobic fitness.
